Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy has announced a grant of ten million rupees to the next of kin of those killed in these incidents.

He said that the state government ministers are camping to monitor the relief and rescue operations in cyclone affected areas. He has asked the Public Welfare Department, Power Department and Relief Management Department to work at the war level to restore power and water supply in the affected areas.

Talking to journalists in Olamur of Salem, he said that due to cyclone wind speed was 110 kmph and due to this there was serious destruction in the districts of Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Thanjavur and Cuddalore.

The Chief Minister said that the families of those killed in storm-related incidents will be given ten million rupees, Rs one lakh for the seriously injured and Rs 25 thousand for the injured normally, on behalf of the state government. They also assured the fishermen that they would also be compensated for their losses.

According to Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Authority, 76,290 people have been evacuated from the lower areas to safer places. All these have been kept in more than 300 relief camps set up in six districts including Nagapattinam, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram and Thiruvarur. Vacation has been declared in the educational institutions of Nagapattinam.
