Government banks coming to the RBI's PCA list have shut down several ATMs in the last one year. This also happened when in the last one year, cash withdrawal was increased by 22 percent in the country including rural India. This list includes Allahabad Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Central Bank, Bank of India and UCO Bank. ATMs are being cut after RBI's regulatory orders. The bank has dropped shutter shutters of 15 percent of its ATMs. In April last year the number of bank ATMs was 3,500, which is now only 3,000. This is followed by Canara Bank and UCO Bank, who closed their 7.6 percent of ATMs. Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank are two big banks, who are cutting ATM despite being out of PCA. Bank of Baroda has shut down 2,000 ATMs, while PNB stuck in scam closed 1,000 ATMs
Where the government banks are cutting ATMs, private and small finance banks (SFBs) have completed their shortfall. The new Fiona Payment Bank has installed 2,700 ATM machines while the largest public sector bank State Bank of India has installed 500 new ATMs. Private banks installed 7,500 new ATMs between 2016 and 2017. However, this figure is lower than that of last year when private banks used 15,714 ATMs. SBI Deputy Managing Director Neeraj Vyas said that ATM business is not particularly attractive
