10 अक्टूबर 1968 को आन्ध्र प्रदेश के राजमुंद्री में जन्मे अली का मूल नाम अली बाशा है। चौंकने वाली बात तो यह है कि अली के पिता के एक दर्जी थे। अली ने साल 1994 जुबैदा सुल्ताना बेगम से निकाह कर लिया था इतना ही नहीं आज इस कपल के तीन बच्चे भी है।



मुख्यतौर पर तो अली तेलुगू सिनेमा में काम करते है। उन्होंने तेलुगू, तमिल और हिंदी में 1000 से अधिक फिल्मों में काम किया हैं। अली ने पवन कल्याण और पुरी जगन्नाध के फिल्मों में एक नियमित अभिनेता के तौर पर काम किया है।

खास बात तो यह है कि साल 2005 में इन्हें तेलुगू फिल्मफेयर सर्वश्रेष्ठ कॉमेडियन पुरस्कार मिला था। इसके अलावा अली को दो नंदी पुरस्कार भी मिले है। अली खुजली विरोधी दवा मनमोहन जादुलू मलाम के लिए एक ब्रांड एंबेसडर है।
