बीजेपी नेता और केंद्रीय मंत्री बाबुल सुप्रियों के अनुसार रानीगंज आसनसोल में दंगो के माहौल से डरकर लोग भागने लगे हैं, बीजेपी कार्यकर्ता उन्हें आश्रय देकर उनके खाने पीने का इंतजाम कर रहे हैं, बंगाल सरकार पूरी तरह से फेल हुई है.

एबीपी न्‍यूज से बातचीत में एक पलायनकर्ता ने कहा, "हम सुरक्षित जगह पर जा रहे हैं। हम अपने परिवारों को वहां ले जा रहे हैं जहां मुस्लिम आबादी बेहद कम हो।" एक अन्‍य ने चैनल से कहा, "ममता बनर्जी हिन्‍दुओं के लिए कुछ नहीं कर रही हैं।" इलाके में भारी सुरक्षा-बल तैनात किए गए हैं। आज तक के अनुसार, आसनसोल में करीब 60 लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है। गांवों में हालात अभी भी बिगड़े हुए हैं।

राज्‍यपाल केसरी नाथ त्रिपाठी आसनसोल जाने की तैयारी में थे मगर ममता सरकार ने उन्‍हें सुरक्षा मुहैया कराने में असमर्थता जता दी। राजभवन की ओर से जारी बयान में कहा गया कि इलाके में पुलिस की तैनाती को देखते हुए माननीय राज्‍यपाल को पर्याप्‍त सुरक्षा मुहैया करा पाना मुश्किल होगा। राज्‍य सरकार ने राज्‍यपाल को 'दुर्गापुर दौरे पर न जाने' की सलाह दी।
