New Delhi: The Gujarat High Court has given a major decision in the Godhra carnage. The court has convicted the 11 convicts to life imprisonment. What is the matter

On February 27, 2002, the S-6 bogie of Sabarmati Express was set on fire near Godhra Station in Gujarat. 59 people of Ayodhya who were returning from Ayodhya were killed in the incident at 7:30 in the morning.

In connection with the burning of the S-6 bogie of the Sabarmati train, the special court of SIT had convicted 31 people in the case on March 1, 2011 and acquitted 63. 11 convicts were sentenced to death, while 20 were sentenced to life imprisonment.

The culprits and the government had both appealed in the High Court

The court was guilty of this decision and both the government appealed in the High Court. The government had said that the punishment given to the culprits is less and action should also be taken against those who have been acquitted. At the same time the guilty had appealed that they did not get justice.

नई दिल्ली: गुजरात हाईकोर्ट ने गोधरा कांड में बड़ा फैसला सुनाया है. कोर्ट ने 11 दोषियों को फांसी की सजा को उम्रकैद में तब्दील कर दिया है. इसके साथ ही हाईकोर्ट ने निचली अदालत से बरी किए गए 63 आरोपियों को भी मुक्त रखा है. कोर्ट के फैसले के बाद साफ हो गया है कि गोधरा कांड में अब किसी को फांसी नहीं होगी.

मुआवजे का एलान, सरकार कानून व्यवस्था में असफल

कोर्ट ने मृतकों के परिजनों को 10-10 लाख का मुआवजा और घायलों को भी मुआवजा मिलेगा. इसके साथ ही कोर्ट ने अवलोकन किया है कि उस वक्त की सरकार कानून और व्यवस्था बनाये रखने में सरकार विफल रही.

क्या है मामला?

27 फरवरी 2002 में गुजरात के गोधरा स्टेशन के पास साबरमती एक्सप्रेस की एस-6 बोगी में आग लगा दी गई थी. सुबह 7 बजकर 57 मिनट पर हुई इस घटना में अय़ोध्या से लौट रहे 59 कार सेवकों की जलकर मौत हो गई थी.

साबरमती ट्रेन की एस-6 बोगी को जलाने के मामले में एसआईटी की विशेष अदालत ने एक मार्च 2011 को इस मामले में 31 लोगों को दोषी करार दिया था जबकि 63 को बरी कर दिया था. 11 दोषियों को मौत की सजा सुनाई गई जबकि 20 को उम्रकैद की सजा सुनाई थी.

दोषियों और सरकार दोनों ने की थी हाईकोर्ट में अपील

कोर्ट के इस फैसले के खिलाफ दोषी और सरकार दोनों ने हाईकोर्ट में अपील की थी. सरकार ने कहा था कि दोषियों को दी गई सजा कम है, साथ ही जिन लोगों को बरी किया गया है उनके खिलाफ कार्रवाई होनी चाहिए. वहीं दोषियों ने अपील की थी कि उन्हें न्याय नहीं मिला है.
