According to statistics, IS has conducted 39 attacks in Somalia from January to July this year. Of these 27 attacks were carried out in May, June and July. In 2017, the IS had made claims of 21 attacks in Somalia throughout the year. IS mostly killed or shot dead, but in some, Improvised Explosive Device i.e. is also used.

On the target of IS, there were intelligence officers, Somali police and military personnel, although despite the IS activities, their attacks in Somalia have been small at the moment.

In Somalia, IS competes with Al-Shabab, a terrorist organization, which often attacks large and deadly attacks on army, government and African forces. And in fact Al-Shabab's presence has blocked the expansion of IS in Somalia.

Abdikadir Mumin has been told to be the gangster of IS extremists in Somalia. Mumin and some of his fighters have come from Al-Shabab and in October 2015 he was shown taking oath in a video with IS chief Abu Bakar al-Baghdadi. Then IS was at the peak. After this deal, a media campaign of IS also came in which the people of Al-Shabab were invited to join the IS.

Although al-Shabab's influence has forced IS fighters to chew the noses to make their hold in Somalia, because Al-Shabab is cleaning the IS extremists in the country openly.
